Drive 01

Day 02: Windhoek to Swakopmond

This was our first drive out of the main city. We were given specific directions to leave town before 7, that way we would avoid "traffic" - You should have seen the look on our faces when Deldry and Charlie warned us about traffic as if we weren't from the the two cities with the worst traffic in America. We took their advice anyways, never any harm in getting a headstart. We packed up and got a quick breakfast and hit the road before 7am.

The way to Swakopmond was one road for 364.9km (226.74 mi) of dirt and shrubs. Amped on the anticipation of an epic road trip, we conquered this first leg no problem. Co-pilot had playlists on deck and we burned through 3 hours shooting impromptu lip syncs with the selfie stick. I even let Taryn flex her photo skills and take a bunch of pictures with my camera since I was too busy...SHIFTING INTO 6TH GEAR. Oh, and paying attention to the road.

In between Windhoek and Swakopmond there are four small town that you must drive through to continue straight - the highway just goes right through them. (List towns) We didn't have to stop for gas and our local connects didn't recommend stopping in the towns. So instead, we stopped on the side of the road where there were the shoulder was a little wider to stretch our legs and take in the wide open spaces. A few times the road was so deserted we could stand in the middle, like right on the yellow lines, and pose for selfies.

We arrived at Bon Hotel (located in the Dome Mall) in German coastal town, Swakopmond. After checking in, we immediately dragged our stiff and starving butts down to Tulman's for some lunch.
