Hills for Breakfast

We started our second day just as early with legs just a little less fresh. Each morning we would fuel up with leftovers or some kind of bread and peanut butter. And a side of Advil.

Unlike the day before, the ride along the coast was foggy and cool. I won't say cold since 20 minutes into the ride, there we were - climbing (and therefor sweating) once again.

We all developed different ways to keep our minds off the hills. I ate hills for breakfast! Breakfast only...lunch and dinner were tough. Sean played games to help pass the climbing time. And Curtis...well...he just hoped he wasn't getting sunburnt.

Clearly, one of us was better than the others at biking.

What's funny is that I didn't keep a daily journal on this trip so I've been using 25% memory and 75% context from the photos and videos to remember a lot of moments. For example, I know the video above is from the second day because Sean is still finishing up his calzone from Tie Dye Pizza.

Afternoon

Hills for Lunch

We stopped for lunch at McDonald's in Waldport. To this day, the thing I miss the most about this trip is not just wanting, but having to consume maximum amounts of calories during meals.

And the snacks too. I wore a pair of pants that had a pocket on the side of my thigh. During each break, I'd stick a snackpack in it for munching while riding. Everything from chips, pb&j, trailmix, chocolate, even plain lavosh bread (though that last one was probably the worst).

After lunch there were more rolling hills and the road started winding. It was pretty neat being so close to the ocean. At a few of the lookouts, we were able to see and hear sea lions.

Evening

Hills for Dinner

The sun had set by the time we reached Sheridan, the town closest to our campsite, where we stopped to grab more supplies and dinner (burgers again from A&W). We actually had to turn our lights on as we rode 5 more miles in the dark to get to our final destination.

Jessie M Honeyman Memorial State Park required us to bike quite far into the woods. By the time we got there, got settled, and finished eating dinner, the campsite was pitch black and everyone was asleep. Also the reason why I don't have pictures on this one. There weren't any charging stations, but there were hot showers again.

There was little chatting as we wolfed down our burgers and made haste to get to bed. While the longest days were beind us, the biggest climbs were not.
